Khaleda ready to join dialogue if govt keeps CG on agenda

Ilias’ wife Luna wants to meet PM

ADB, Jica extend loan activation time 

  The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica) have extended the deadline for activating loan for the Padma Multipurpose Bridge by another three months. The deadline, which expired last week, has been extended to make it parallel with the World Bank's extension until July, an official of the Economic Relations Division (ERD) said.

Bangladesh signs deal with US firm: Satellite Launch 2015 

  BibekBarta.jp : Bangladesh will launch its first satellite into space by 2015 in a landmark move towards opening a new era in communication and broadcasting and creating new businesses. Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission yesterday signed a Tk 82.5 crore consultancy deal with a US firm, Space Partnership International (SPI). The firm will design the satellite, named Bangabandhu, officials said. The satellite will reduce reliance on foreign satellites for cable channels and improve telecom services to the remote areas of the country. Apologise for ISI remarks: BNP to PM 

The BNP on Friday threatened to take legal action against prime minister Sheikh Hasina if she does not apologise to the people for making 'false and baseless' remarks that the party had taken illegal funds from Pakistani spy outfit ISI. Syria violence puts UN mission in question

Afghan policeman kills nine colleagues  

  An Afghan policeman killed nine of his colleagues in the eastern province of Paktika, police and provincial government officials said Friday, reports AFP. Paktika provincial police chief Dawlat Khan said the shooting happened in the early hours in Yahyakhil district. "A local policeman named Asadullah was persuaded by the Taliban insurgents to carry out the firing inside the security check post," he told AFP. "First he poisoned his colleagues and then later at 3:00 am in the morning today, he shot dead nine of his colleagues.

India swine flu outbreak kills 12 

Twelve people have died of swine flu in India since the beginning of March, the country's health ministry says. Half of the deaths have been reported from the western state of Maharashtra. IED kills soldier, injures another in Mosul 

A soldier was killed and another wounded when an improvised explosive device (IED) went off near an Iraqi army patrol in western Mosul city on Wednesday, a security source in Ninewa said.“An IED blast targeted an army patrol in al-Islah al-Zira’ie, western Mosul, today, leaving a soldier killed and another seriously wounded,” the source told IraqiNews.com news agency.The source added that security forces cordoned off the site of the explosion as the wounded serviceman was rushed to hospital for treatment.Mosul, the capital city of the restive province of Ninewa, is located 405 km north of Baghdad.

Iran 'may boost nuclear programme' 

Iran may be poised to expand its nuclear programme at an underground site near the city of Qom, a Vienna-based diplomat told the BBC yesterday.
